10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Elimination Chamber
2. The Chamber In The Midcard (2015)
When 2015's Pay-Per-View schedule was released, it included a February show called Fastlane. That meant that for the first time in eight years, there was no Elimination Chamber-themed PPV on the docket.
Two weeks before a house show in May, though, WWE decided to call an audible and bring back the Chamber as a WWE Network exclusive. It was short notice and it wasn't on Pay-Per-View, but it was still the Elimination Chamber, right?
Well, it was, but it wasn't the same. For some reason, the company decided that the WWE Championship (held at the time by Seth Rollins) shouldn't be on the line in the match - that title was part of a lame DQ finish involving Dean Ambrose. Instead, the Tag Team Titles and the vacant Intercontinental Championship were on the line in separate Chamber matches.
This scenario was less interesting to fans, given that it involved The Ascension. In the Tag Team Title match, The New Day retained their titles, but given how all three members got to compete in the bout, it felt like there were no rules. In the Intercontinental Title match, Ryback was victorious, eliminating Sheamus to capture the belt. Now that was an anticlimax.
Unsurprisingly, there was no Elimination Chamber show on the 2016 calendar.
