10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Shield

1. The Shield Was CM Punk's Idea

WWE would love you to believe that The Shield was their idea. The trio are, after all, the company's greatest modern stable, and a universally-praised group who deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the likes of D-Generation X and the New World Order. Everything from their grand debut to their shocking split was perfectly conceived, but it was CM Punk, not his former employers, who came up with the stable.

The former 'Voice Of The Voiceless' has since become a persona non grata with in the WWE Universe, which probably enhances the company's desire for this fact to stay buried in the past. Regardless, history doesn't lie. Punk pitched the idea of Vince McMahon & co. a few months prior to The Shield's debut, and while management insisted on subbing Kassius Ohno for Roman Reigns, they agreed it was an viable idea.

This must be a sore one for the company. Punk has become one of wrestling's most divisive figures since putting WWE on blast following his departure, and while they'd love to scrub him from history, The Shield's recent revival ensures that his legacy lives on at the very top of the card.
