Aguayo's future looked bright. After coasting a little bit and focusing his attention on his own promotion for several years he was having something of a resurgence in AAA. Aguayo's recent work was some of his best in years at a time when there are a lot of eyes on Mexican wrestling. A lot of those extra eyes are thanks to the presence of Alberto el Patro (Del Rio), Myzteziz and Rey Mysterio. These are three huge stars and, importantly, three major babyfaces for Aguayo to feud with. It was clear that he was set to have big-money feuds with all three. Dave Meltzer confirmed that AAA had big matches and feuds planned for him. Aguayo was first to complete his programme with Myzteziz (with whom he had some stellar matches in the mid-2000s in CMLL) and then go on to wrestle el Patron in a World Title programme. Those feuds and matches could have been spectacular but fate intervened. Where AAA goes from here is uncertain, but it's of little consequence when you consider the very real tragedy that took place on March 21st. Aguayo was a huge star, a superstar worker until the end.
