When it comes to successful thrown together tag teams, The New Age Outlaws will always top the bill. Billy Gunn and Jesse James were thrown together out of nowhere, and went on to become the most successful tag team of their generation and two quarters of one of WWE's most iconic factions. If that isn't success, I don't know what is.

By the time October 1997 came around, Rockabilly and The Real Double J were lost in the ether of the then-WWF, two guys doing nothing with nothing in sight. Jesse James managed to convince Billy Gunn to smash a guitar over the head of The Honky Tonk Man, and a team was born.

The soon-to-be-christened New Age Outlaws went on to win multiple Tag Team championships along with singles gold and more. Billy Gunn's best years already seemed behind him at this point, and it was becoming abundantly clear that Jesse James was somewhat reliant on his family links when it came to wrestling success. The New Age Outlaws changed both men's lives.

In truth, thrown together tag teams will always ben judged against the success of The New Age Outlaws.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
