10 Times Irresistible Forces Met Immovable Objects In Wrestling
4. John Cena Vs. Batista
Come 2002, it was clear that WWE required an injection of fresh talent. Names such as The Rock and 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin were starting to express greater interests in Hollywood and retirement respectively. Further, guys like Mick Foley had retired from full-time action. Some new faces were badly needed.
That year, both John Cena and Batista made their main roster debuts. Moved up from then-developmental farm system Ohio Valley Wrestling, they were quickly shunted up the ladder and pushed on television.
For that very reason, they became linked, both becoming headliners at roughly the same time.
Cena and Batista were the final pairing in the 2005 Royal Rumble match, and they would later square off at SummerSlam 2008 in what was billed as being '6 years in the making'.
Batista would win that one, before Cena gained his revenge at WrestleMania XXVI by making 'The Animal' submit.
Whenever John Cena and Batista did battle in WWE, it was always treated like a collision between true superstars. The result, announcers claimed, was too difficult to call.
