On a few rare occassions, WWE have tried to add another layer to John Cenas character by giving him a love interests. Unfortunately, it never goes well because the John Cena character is a terrible boyfriend. Hes emotionally vacant the majority of the time, and is terrified of people finding out that he has feelings and emotions like a human. In 2008, WWE ran a story where John Cena and Mickie James became romantically involved, but this story is overshadowed by the real life allegations between the two. In 2012, WWE tried to do the story again, this time with AJ Lee. Whenever Cena and AJ would appear together, the lack of chemistry between the two was apparent, and Cena seemed far more interested in his own business than their relationship as a couple. Its no surprise AJ betrayed Cena for Dolph Ziggler by the end of the year - John Cena is passionate about a lot of things but it seems romance isnt one of them.
