The thing about the John Cena character is that hes the illusion of a nice guy. He does things that fans want because thats what gets cheers and thats fuels him. Sometimes that backfires on him horrendously, like when he picked Daniel Bryan as his opponent for SummerSlam. He said hed choose whoever the fans wanted, and the fans unanimously picked Bryan, but there was more to Cenas plan than just giving the fans what they want. For years now, Cenas made a career of surrounding himself with the hottest, most exciting talent in an effort to stay relevant and leech some of their popularity. Daniel Bryan was an exception in that he actually came out on top in their match, and yes, Dean Ambrose did beat John Cena when they faced each other but it was the least decisive victory possible. For years, wrestlers like Bray Wyatt and Dolph Ziggler have been fed to the John Cena machine. They might get a victory here or there, but its almost always through interference or shenanigans, and rest assured by the end of the feud John Cena is standing tall and the young gun is put back in his place. Narratively, the good guy winning is the conventional ending but WWE isnt going to make any legitimate stars in the near future if John Cena keeps running through them.
