10 Times Shawn Michaels Lost Clean

10. Bret Hart (Survivor Series 1992)

Looking back on Vince McMahon's decision to thrust Shawn Michaels into the main event spotlight at Survivor Series 1992, it's clear that the WWF head honcho was experimenting somewhat. Bret Hart had just recently become the WWF Heavyweight Champion, beating Ric Flair in a non-televised match, and it's obvious that things were starting to move in a different direction for the company. Hart was very much a no-frills professional wrestler, one who favoured long matches during which the focus was definitely on the actual in-ring action. Shawn Michaels had been thriving as a mid-card heel, winning the Intercontinental Title from The British Bulldog shortly before this Survivor Series bout. The match had originally been scheduled to be a secondary main event, but when The Ultimate Warrior was removed from the card, HBK's crack at the WWF Title was bumped up. McMahon couldn't have been anything other than impressed by what he saw from his two hungry young lions, who put on a clinic. Hart would go over, of course, but Michaels proved that he belonged in the upper echelons.
