10 Times Shawn Michaels Lost Clean

6. vs. Hulk Hogan (SummerSlam 2005)

If rumours are to be believed, HBK wasn't too hot on the idea of doing the job for Hulk Hogan at Summerslam 2005. In essence, Shawn Michaels is one of the men (along with others, such as Bret Hart) who have always represented everything that Hogan is not. It was men like Shawn who helped usher in a new era of WWF Superstar in the mid-90's, ones who were much more wrestling-focused than the Hulk had ever been. By 2005 however, both guys were on an equal footing, mega stars in the WWE bubble. Turning heel to face Hulkamania, Shawn Michaels was a riot in pre-match promos, setting up the bout beautifully. There were elements of realism peppered throughout the feud, harking back to the attitude Michaels had shown during his time with D-Generation X in the late-90's. At Summerslam, it would be Hogan who would have the last laugh. A lot of fans feel that Shawn decided to sabotage a lot of Hulk's offence during the encounter, overselling and generally acting up, but the match didn't really suffer from it. It was a smart move to put the collision in the main event too, as this was one match deserving of the spotlight.
