10 Times Vince McMahon Said F**k You To The Fans

8. 'I Have An Idea - Let's Kill WCW (Again)'

Vince McMahon and the WWF 'officially' won the Monday Night War on March 26th, 2001. One that day, Vince McMahon bought the rights to the WCW name, its archives and the contracts of several of its wrestlers. Despite getting his a** kicked 84 weeks in a row at one time, Vince was declared the winner, So Vince had bought his competition. Early speculation was that the WWF wanted to relaunch WCW as its own separate touring brand. Then they had a change of heart and decided to run with the natural WCW versus WWF programme instead. Fans had been clamouring to see the angle for years. Regrettably, the Invasion angle was a massive disappointment. One big problem was that the real big stars like Hulk Hogan, Goldberg and Kevin Nash decided to sit on their guaranteed Time Warner contracts. What we got instead was Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page, who tried admirably, but it just wasn't what fans had been fantasy booking all that time. The main problem, however, was that Vince refused to let the WWF wrestlers show weakness. Only Alliance defectors like Stone Cold Steve Austin could show any kind of superiority. DDP and the like were squashed like jobbers by The Undertaker and Kane. The rest of the WCW midcard didn't stand a chance. Vince threw money down the drain with the handling of the Invasion storyline. He was intent on showing that WCW wasn't on the level of the WWF. Why would anyone care about such a one-sided feud? They didn't, as declining PPV buyrates confirmed. The Alliance were dead and buried within six months.
