The general gist of John Cena's beef with The Rock back between 2011-2013 was that Dwayne Johnson was spouting rubbish when he said WWE was "home". How could that be true when he'd dashed off to Hollywood and was spending more time in acting than he was prepping for marquee pay-per-view bouts? Meanwhile, Cena was a loyal WWE soldier who was there every single week.

Spotted the problem yet? Yep, this was undeniably true at the time, but John came away with one statement that's a bit cringe with the benefit of hindsight. When nipping at Rock's heels, Cena said that he wouldn't transition to Hollywood and leave the company behind. Sure, people change their priorities and all that, but JC's statements look so, so foolish in 2025.

He has, for all intents and purposes, followed the same template set by (wouldn't you just know it?!) Johnson.

Cena has even admitted during interviews that he's a hypocrite for definitively making such brash claims whilst he was still a WWE full-timer. Back then, John genuinely believed that he'd be all in on company business until his dying breath. Cool, but it's funny that he's since become a smash hit in Hollywood and everything he shouted loudly against nearly 15 years ago.

People have had a giggle clipping up some of Cena's most definitive promos discussing loyalty and Rock's idea of it. Oh well, at least this all worked at the time to make John look like he was flying the flag for "sports entertainment" over mainstream silver screen pay offs.

Once this current retirement run ends at the end of 2025, he'll belong to film full time. Awkward!
