10 Times Wrestlers Blatantly Lied To Your Face
5. Stephanie McMahon Loved Big Show As A Kid
Some wrestling lies are so brazen that you've almost got to stand in awe at the cheek of them. How did anybody put pen to paper on certain promos and think no-one would notice they had more holes than a leaky boat? It's astonishing that Raw's writers back in 2013 figured they could slip this gem of a statement from Stephanie McMahon into storylines without pushback from the audience.
During The Authority's brainwashing bits with Big Show that year, an emotional Stephanie said that Show was her childhood hero. Yes, WWE were weirdly slotting Show into the unofficial uncle spot Andre The Giant would’ve filled when baby Steph was running around backstage as a kid. No, it didn't work, but Show turned on the waterworks and accepted it anyway.
'BS' indeed.
For reference, there’s exactly 4 years, 7 months and 16 days between the pair, so this didn’t add up mathematically. Worse, it was so painfully obvious to anyone watching that it was a fib. WWE ignored simple logic to try and tell their story anyway, then back-pedalled away from the idea that McMahon had grown up watching Paul Wight once they'd had their fun.
Wight debuted in wrestling as WCW's The Giant in (checks notes) 1995. By then, Stephanie was 19 years of age. This was so preposterous and chronologically flawed that you've semi-got to admire how crap a thought it was by WWE's creative squad. Someone/Anyone should've popped a hand up and pointed out that Show and Steph are roughly the same age.
At least try to make your lies convincing!
