10 Times Wrestlers Busted Out Moves You'd NEVER Expect

5. CM Punk Busts Out The Five Moves Of Doom

Can't find the link to the tweet or the podcast - apologies for that, because this take is phenomenal and deserves credit - but someone, somewhere, on the eve of his return, described CM Punk as "wrestling's ex".

What an insight. A lot of people, your writer included, forgot just how incredible he was because he was such an abrasive, egomaniacal personality who stopped caring about them. The same thing is happening now, even after the year he has had. Punk has a way of making fans love, hate and pretend not to miss him.

Nobody forecasted Punk receiving jeers four months after his improbable, incredible return to wrestling - but then, people forget that about him. He was the best heel of the 21st century and he loved, lived for the hatred. The match with Eddie Kingston at Full Gear 2021 was so brilliant and distinctively so: a witty, pissy, petulant fight that told more story in 10 minutes than so many hacks manage in three times that amount.

Incredibly, Punk, delighting in the reaction, channelled John Cena and performed his Five Moves of Doom sequence to get over the idea that he was the establishment, a saboteur, the fake megastar as contrast to Kingston's real grinder.

A masterclass and a cruel glimpse of the full-blown turn that sadly never happened.
