10 Times Wrestlers Lost Their Title Belts
7. Jerry Lawler Loses A Belt - Part 1
A Jerry Lawler Triple here which is, incidentally, now the informal term for a heart bypass procedure in certain Tennessee hospitals.
First up concerns his rather laissez-faire treatment of the iconic Southern Jr Heavyweight championship belt. What's that? Jesus man, do you need me to do everything for you? It's was (and still is, I guess?) the most prestigious title in the entire Memphis territories! Sputnik Monroe used to carry it for crying out loud.
Anyway, during Lawler's run with it he was casually signing autographs for a number of fans when, feeling the call of nature, popped the belt into a bag and headed to the toilet. Yes, just leaving it sitting there, in full reach of wrestling fans. When he returned - shock and awe - it had been taken from his table and the culprit long since departed.
Despite his best efforts the championship was never, ever recovered. Given these where the days when wrestlers were sometimes required to put down five-figure bonds in order to carry their belts around with them, there's a serious chance this stung him in his pocket as well as his pride.
