10 Times Wrestlers Quit Before Major PPVs
9. Ultimate Warrior (WWF Survivor Series ’92)
The Survivor Series 1992 poster features Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage and The Ultimate Warrior billed together as ‘The Ultimate Maniacs’, squaring off against ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair and Razor Ramon. The issue here being Warrior never ended up wrestling or even appearing on the card.
Savage and Warrior had clashed at that year’s SummerSlam event but it ended in count-out when Flair and Mr. Perfect interfered and attacked both men. This was the setup for Survivor Series. Before the event, however, Warrior quit the WWF.
Warrior wasn’t happy with the direction of his character and there were allegations of steroid abuse at the time directed at him. Frustrated, Warrior quit the WWF, forcing them to rapidly replace him with Mr. Perfect in the tag match at Survivor Series which required a quick (and convoluted) face turn for Perfect.
The Survivor Series card was thrown into disarray on the undercard too, with the WWF having to scrap the Intercontinental title match after The British Bulldog, who was scheduled to defend against The Mountie, was released from his contract due to steroid allegations. This was the last we would see of Warrior for a while. He didn’t return to the WWF until 1996 at WrestleMania XII.
