10 Times Wrestlers Thought They Were Fired For Sure

6. Kevin Owens

Few stars experienced the dizzying highs and crippling lows of the WWE experience as quickly as the mighty Kevin Owens did during his early days on the main roster.

After battering John Cena on his first night, becoming the Universal Champion two years later, and regularly stealing the show alongside Chris Jericho, the two pals produced a display at WrestleMania 33 that wasn't to Vinnie Mac's liking. This kickstarted a run that would see Owens struggling to get to grips with where he belonged in WWE, with the star seemingly doubting if he'd ever get back on track or in McMahon's good books again.

However, Owens' feud with Shane McMahon in late 2017 appeared to signal that the boss still had plans for KO, with Vince even taking a nasty head-butt and frog splash from the former Universal Champion on an episode of SmackDown. He's since spent the following few years clawing himself back into a main event position. But it did seem, for a time, as though the former Kevin Steen was preparing for the worst on the back of a seriously dark spell in the company.
