10 Times Wrestlers Unified Titles

4. Randy Orton (WWE And WWE World Heavyweight)

In late 2013, the infamous PG Era was on the way out and the Reality Era was on the way in. Having totally failed to make enough new viable stars to keep operating separate brands by then, WWE had no choice but to make RAW and SmackDown one and the same roster-wise. This made a second World title rather redundant, prompting the seven thousandth or thereabouts contest between John Cena and Randy Orton to decide who would unify the belts.

In a psychologically strong TLC match between the career rivals, The Legend Killer came out on top, further bolstering his angle as The Authority's chosen champion. While Orton remained as smooth as ever between the ropes, his work at the time was considered disappointingly inferior to his previous main event heel runs in 2007 and 2009. Instead of portraying the sociopathic, head-punting villain that had been such a hit with viewers, Orton was presented as a whiney, insubordinate lackey to Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

If there's one positive that came out of this, it's that the then-white hot Daniel Bryan took the belts off The Viper at WrestleMania XXX. Needless to say, this attempt from WWE to go back to having a single World title didn't last very long.
