10 Times Wrestlers Unified Titles
3. Ric Flair (NWA World Heavyweight And WCW International)
Ric Flair's feud with WCW executive vice president Jim Herd was as heated as the best of his in-ring battles. Butting heads on every conceivable topic, Herd couldn't stand The Nature Boy and his place on the booking committee. Believing Flair's time as a headliner to be over, Herd suggested the NWA champ be repackaged as a gladiator named Spartacus to make way for younger talents such as Lex Luger and Sting. Understandably miffed, Flair jumped ship to WWE and took the title with him.
In Flair’s absence, WCW stumbled into a sea of World title delirium. By the time he returned, there was now a WCW International title running amok with confusion surrounding both the NWA title and the new WCW World title.
After WCW withdrew from the NWA completely in '93, questions remained over the World and International titles. In a time when just the one World title was enough for most promotions, WCW moved ahead with retiring the troublesome International belt in a unification match between World champ Ric Flair and International champ Sting.
Naitch picked up the win at Clash of the Champions XXVII in one of several classics between him and the Stinger. With just the one WCW top prize moving forward, Flair once again solidified himself as the true ace of the promotion (even with his treatment in the company's disastrous closing years). All the title hubbub just goes to show WCW was always a confusing place to keep track of.
