10 Times Wrestling Was The Best Soap Opera Ever
1. Edge/Lita/Matt Hardy
The feud between Matt Hardy, Lita, and Edge blurred the lines between personal and private. It gave fans a couple of solid matches. However, the emotional turmoil it took on the people behind the gimmicks was evident.
INFIDELITY!
While Matt was out with a knee injury, he had no issue with “the love of his life” and his close friend travelling together. However, when Lita returned from the road, she was distant. Matt checked her voicemail. He heard Edge confess his love. Hardy vented through online outbursts. Though he was released by WWE for unprofessionalism, an online petition soon secured Matt’s return. The feud was the epitome of car crash entertainment, uncomfortable but compelling to watch.
REAL LIFE SPILLS OVER!
Matt hijacked Lita’s Byte This! interview declaring Amy Dumas dead, leaving just Lita “the filthy w***e hanging out with Edge”. After holding her tongue, Lita alluded to there being “obviously something missing”. However, she cut the interview rather than elaborating.
THE BLAME GAME!
The three were invited to be interviewed from separate rooms on Byte This!. Matt accused Edge of doing everything he could do to get inside Amy/Lita’s head and pants. Edge mocked the idea he was waiting for Matt to be out of the picture to pounce, referring to Hardy as a ‘little boy’, and ending the interview.
The feud climaxed with Edge defeating Hardy in a ‘Loser Leaves Raw’ Ladder Match. Over the years, things became less tense in the personal lives of those involved.
