10 Times Wrestling Was The Best Soap Opera Ever
2. Raven Takes Sandman's Family
ECW superstars were known for taking it to the extreme in the ring. However, in his feud with The Sandman, Raven took wrestling to its emotional extreme.
PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE!
Raven dug deep in comparing Sandman to his own “abusive drunk” father. The only reason Raven didn’t kill his father was because he died before he figured out a way to kill him and get away with it. Raven’s searing anger was unnerving as he vowed to make Sandman wish he was dead too.
STEP-DAD OR CULT LEADER?
Raven won over Sandman’s wife, Lori, and his son, Tyler. Both of whom began dressing in Raven cosplay, mimicking his mannerisms, and openly worshipping Raven. Raven took sadistic pleasure in ransoming their love.
CRUCIFIXION!
The bloody and violent feud ended with a match in October 1996 with The Sandman’s son finally coming back on side and aiding his father in the match. However, Raven and his remaining Flock attacked and crucified The Sandman. This was famously the same evening Kurt Angle was present. He was outraged. It almost affected his career move to professional wrestling. Angle threatened ECW with legal action if his name was associated with the featured episode.
