10 Times WWE Accidentally Created A Star
9. Damien Sandow
By 2014, Damien Sandow was circling the drain. After a failed Money in the Bank cash-in, he was stuck impersonating everyone from Sherlock Holmes to Vince McMahon. It was gimmick purgatory — until he became The Miz’s stunt double.
As Damien Mizdow, Sandow mimicked The Miz’s every move at ringside — taking phantom bumps, mouthing promos, and selling like his life depended on it. It was meant to be a background gag, but Sandow gave it everything. His commitment turned a throwaway role into the most entertaining part of the show.
Crowds erupted for Mizdow. He got louder reactions than The Miz. Fans chanted his name, desperate to see him break out. WWE, of course, didn’t plan for this. And when the split finally came, Sandow got a brief babyface moment before being quietly buried.
Still, his run as Mizdow remains a masterclass in turning nothing into something. He didn’t get over because of a push — he got over because he committed. Every pratfall, every exaggerated gesture, every invisible promo was delivered like it mattered. And for a while, it really did.
