10 Times WWE Didn't Realise Greatness Was Staring Them In The Face
4. Diesel
This one might seem a bit off the mark. After all, Vince McMahon pushed Diesel to the moon. He was made to look like a near unstoppable force in the 1994 Royal Rumble and soon given the company’s top belt.
It was all a long way from his stints as Master Blaster Steel or Oz in WCW. You could make the case that it was that promotion who missed the boat with a talent that was not so much staring them in the face as towering over them.
Where it all goes wrong for Diesel though was that title reign, exemplified by that notorious grinning cover of WWF Magazine. WWE recognised 'Big Sexy' as a good fit for their land of the giants but they still didn’t see quite what they had on their hands. Instead of capitalising on Nash’s tweener persona and natural charisma, Vince McMahon tried to fit this extra large square peg into the round hole reserved for smiling babyface champions.
It would take a leap back to WCW for Kevin Nash to recapture his cool and revitalise the industry as an Outsider.
