10 Times WWE Failed To Make Dean Ambrose 'The Guy'
5. Having Him Lose His Championship Match To Triple H
To compare Dean to his old Shield buddies yet again (makes for a fair measuring stick after all), both Roman and Seth were graced with singles matches against The Game at WrestleManias, and both picked up wins. Ambrose got to go up against 'The King Of Kings' on one occasion: a house show filmed for the Network, which he lost.
Sure, this was shortly before WrestleMania 32 when the plan for Reigns to recapture the WWE Championship from the COO was well in motion. Problem was, no one really wanted to see it. The fans had turned on Roman long before this, whereas Ambrose still had them steadily in his corner.
To put salt on the wounds, the showdown between 'The Cerebral Assassin' and 'The Big Dog' was an overlong, sluggish affair, which failed to justify the record breaking attendance that night. Ambrose would have undoubtedly had the WWE universe in the palm of his hand if allowed to main event. Instead, he was fed to Brock Lesnar (more on that later).
If WWE thought on its feet and felt the pulse of the audience, Dean could have been interjected into the title match instead of Roman, giving him a chance to close out a WrestleMania: an achievement never realised by him. Rather, Dean got his chance against Triple H beforehand and failed, further cementing his inferiority to his Shield contemporaries.
