10 Times WWE Purposefully Lied To The Fans

5. Cactus Jack Retires ... Sort Of

The biggest regret of Mick Foley's career ... um ... apart from the missing ear ... and the falls off that Hell in a Cell ... and TNA. It was stipulated that if Cactus jack failed to defeat Triple H in the HIAC match at No Way Out 2000, he would have to retire. God knows his body could have used a break from in-ring action and Trips was the hottest heel in wrestling at the time. It was seen as a passing of the torch moment when the young Triple H defeated the veteran in his own match and ended his career. Fans were devastated when their beloved Jack was forced to retire after a brutal match that still stands to this day as one of the greatest Cell matches ever. Then came the announcement that Mick Foley would be competing in the Fatal 4 Way main event at WrestleMania 2000 at the very next PPV.
Fans who had bought into the story leading up to No Way Out that Cactus might wrestle his final match that night, slipped their hard earned money right into Vince's pockets and they were rewarded with Cactus retiring for about two weeks. Even Mick Foley has admitted that this was a disservice to the fans. Between this and John Cena's fake retirement (and dozens more in between) WWE will find it difficult to promote legitimate retirement matches in the future.

As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG. I may have a problem! But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
