Towards the latter stages of his time sitting in dark rooms and being an all round moody merchant of violence within WWE's walls, Aleister Black found himself being dealt some pretty bad hands.

In particular, having his eye smashed into a set of steel steps by Buddy Murphy back in 2020 seemed to trigger something unsettling in the character from there on out, with Black going on to attack Kevin Owens upon his return for not being there for him in his hour of need.

But this was supposed to be merely the beginning of a rather disturbing new direction for the eventual Malakai Black.

As the former NXT Champion would detail on his Twitch account in the wake of being released by WWE, he actually pitched a storyline that would have seen him target Rey Mysterio and his family following his KO'ing of Kevin.

His decision to eventually take Mysterio's kids, Dominik and Aalyah, hostage would've stemmed from the masked legend also not having his back during his fatal eye impaling. But instead of this creepy descent into madness, that also would've also involved him getting revenge on Buddy before trying to make up for those devious deeds, WWE clearly felt having him read a book in a candle-lit basement was the less distressing call.
