10 Times WWE Waited FOREVER To Break Records
5. WWE Attendance Record
WrestleMania III was always the benchmark when it came to attendances at the Granddaddy Of Them All.
WWE claims that 93,173 watched Hulk Hogan bodyslam Andre The Giant inside the Pontiac SIlverDome, but it was actually close to 78,000. In a world where wrestling attendances are nearly always made up, 93,173 became the number to beat.
That was made a lot harder when WWE stopped doing as many stadium shows. After 'Mania VIII, WWE didn't break the 10,000 barrier for the Showcase Of The Immortals again until WrestleMania X-Seven. They'd had 78,927 at Wembley Stadium for SummerSlam 1992, but they still weren't close to pushing that III record.
After a run of arenas from 2004-2006, Vince McMahon set his sights on the biggest venues in the United States again. Crowds gathered in the 70,000-80,000s before AT&T Stadium was booked for 'Mania 32.
This goliath of a stadium in Arlington, Texas had 80,000 seats, with plenty of room to put chairs on the field and break the all-time attendance record.
And it happened.
At long last, WWE was able to break the 100,000 mark on 3rd April, 2016 when 101,763 yawned their way through Roman Reigns Vs. Triple H for the WWE Championship. It took 29 years but Vince McMahon had a brand new record to shout about.
Ignore the fact that journalists say the number was actually 80,709, because it's still higher than what they say the true amount at 'Mania III was...
