When Jeff Hardy left WWE in August 2009, he was as over with the audience as he had ever been. However, he needed to rest his beaten body, so it made sense for him to take time off and possibly return in time for WrestleMania season. No one saw him going to TNA at the start of the very short-lived Monday Night Wars redux. It was a kick to the groin of WWE after they had spent months advertising his latest DVD release in his absence and now he was headed to the rival promotion. Despite all the animosity between the two sides, it was more a matter of when and not if he would be back. Fans remember the final promo he cut before leaving where he said, "This is not goodbye forever, this is only goodbye for now". Again, he was likely hinting at a return the following year, but there's basically no question that he'll be back in WWE someday, and hopefully someday soon. The Hardy Boyz' contract with TNA reportedly runs out in January. There wouldn't be a better time for them to come back to the company with the Royal Rumble right around the corner, especially with the tag team division flourishing at the moment. Even if WWE brought back Jeff by himself, he would be a welcome addition to WWE's depleted main event scene. Officials would be insane not to offer him the same type of part-time deal they've given to the likes of Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam and others.
