Every wrestling promotion should strive to make the audience scream "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
WWE however is so phenomenally weird, chaotic and fitful that, more often than not, it makes the audience say "Oh yeah, I remember that" when some baffling development or other pops into their idle thoughts.
The lineage of every midcard title is impossible to trace. Even Vladimir would struggle with the "name every United States Champion chronologically" trivia round because for years - decades - it was passed around every midcard act that Vince McMahon liked for a few weeks.
Question: Who won the United States Title on March 5, 2012 from Jack Swagger before dropping it to Cesaro?
A) Dolph Ziggler?
B) Kofi Kingston?
C) Wade Barrett?
It was actually Santino Marella, but you almost certainly had one of three men in mind.
WWE is just completely über-f*cked, isn't it?
Three-week pushes; dropped angles; calling up #DIY when they were feuding in NXT. For a week.
WWE is so forgettable - while also somehow being insane - that even recent problematic-adjacent gimmicks barely make a blip in the discourse. Fans of a certain age will remember Beaver Cleavage for the rest of their days. No fan of any age will remember PTSD-afflicted Jaxson Ryker smacking himself in penance with a strap.
With all that in mind...
10. The Weirdest Stable Ever Assembled
The weirdest thing about the various Legend's Night or Reunion editions of RAW is that the wrestlers of yesteryear are inexplicably presented as enduring old mates, even if they weren't involved in the company during the same timeframe.
There's Greg Valentine reminiscing with Rosa Mendes, during a party with no music, over the times they absolutely never spent together. Weren't they great? Isn't this great? Just a couple old pals telling war stories. We know it's a great time because Ted DiBiase is randomly bursting into hysterical laughter, as if that's all he ever did. The haunted caricatures make for a decidedly less nostalgic experience than is intended, chiefly because nobody is nostalgic for sh*t that never happened.
On the plus side, Riddle won't have to change anything about his act when he gets the call in 2035.
That example above is of course hypothetical, but it's somehow even less bizarre than the stable that came together for one night only on RAW Reunion in July 2019.
There's a thin thread of logic, in that there's a vague 'murica link. Kurt Angle and Sgt. Slaughter were American heroes in WWE lore (at times). The Hurricane was a superhero, which just about works, but what in the f*ck was Rob Van Dam doing with them?!
Slaughter would have hated him.
