Match of the Night: Triple Threat Tag Team Championship Match

The brand split between SmackDown and Raw was only in its infancy when this joint production was brought to Madison Square Garden in November of 2002. A card that was consistent on the SmackDown side and top-heavy from Raw, the balance of matches that made the event meant that every next match was something different. Putting the PPV inside wrestling’s spiritual home also meant that the audience wouldn’t accept anything less than brilliance, which is exactly what was delivered.

Whilst the night may be remembered for the Elimination Chamber match in which Shawn Michaels finally got revenge on Triple H by winning his World Heavyweight Championship, SmackDown had match of the night in the triple threat tag-team elimination match between Los Guerreros, Edge and Rey Mysterio, and Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle. Not a moment of rest was given to the audience as these teams brought physicality, story-telling, and acrobatics to a whole new level.
