10 Underrated Wrestling Promos
1. Eddie Guerrero - "I Am An Addict"
While this promo does get a reasonable amount of recognition, it doesn't get quite as much love as his Shakespearean heel turn promo from 2005. Still, this promo deserves to be recognized as one of Eddie Guerrero's best, as well as one of the best babyface promos of all time.
In early 2004, Guerrero earned a WWE Championship opportunity against Brock Lesnar at that year's No Way Out PPV. It was cathartic for fans to finally see Guerrero in the spotlight, as he'd toiled his way through years of addiction to finally earn his way back into the good graces of the industry, the fans, and his family.
Naturally, WWE weaved this real-life narrative into this storyline. During a face-to-face confrontation, Lesnar opened his promo with, "hey, addict". Rather than denying his addictions as "highs", Guerrero embraced them. However, his new "high" was the idea that he would beat Lesnar, win the company's top prize, and be able to tell his family that he's sorry for all he put them through.
It's often difficult for a babyface to establish themselves in a sympathetic light, but Guerrero did it effortlessly here. And it made his eventual victory that much more sweet.
