There are not two polar opposite characters than Mr. Perfect and Doink the Clown. Perfect was a stellar athlete whose championship history spoke for itself. He had battled the very best the industry had to offer and compiled a Hall of Fame resume in the process. To top it all off, he was considered one of the best workers in the industry, the type that can be trusted to deliver when the lights were brightest and the stage its grandest. Doink, on the other hand, was an enigmatic newcomer under the guise of clown paint who took great pride and pleasure in tormenting the Superstars of WWE and terrifying young fans. More dangerous than funny, several wrestlers found themselves on the receiving end of his vile and vicious attacks, most notably Crush. Fans had no reason to expect the competitive rivalry that would play out over the course of three weeks in the spring of 1993. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGoOaFHaPEM Both desperate to qualify for the first King of the Ring tournament in two years, it took three matches to determine which Superstar would advance to the quarterfinal round of competition. Behind the makeup and slime green wig of Doink was a very capable wrestler named Matt Borne, who proved his ability and skill in the series. Together, he and Perfect worked two time limit draws, leading to a much-hyped contest between the two on the May 24 episode of Raw. Perfect would finally go over Doink, pinning him with the Perfect Plex in one of the show's early classics. Perfect and Doink never wrestled again, their feud limited to the three high-quality matches that unfolded that spring. Though there was no intense hatred between the two, nor was there any sort of over-complicated back story. It was a tale of two men delivering competitive matches that fans could appreciate and, in the process, putting over the importance of the tournament.
