10 Underutilized Wrestlers In WWE (Who Could Be Stars In AEW)
2. Asuka
Yes, Asuka and Kairi Sane did capture gold at Hell in a Cell. But does it actually MEAN anything at this point?
The match wasn't even announced until right before the event on the kickoff show. And they took the belts off a tag team that was thrown together for a storyline and just happened to work. Oh yeah, and don't forget that Sasha Banks just returned and basically took a s**t all over the prestige of the women's tag belts. What a time to be WWE Women's Tag Team Champions!
But the main problem is simple: Asuka should be top of the singles division, not stuck in the "under construction" women's tag division.
914 days undefeated, 510 days as NXT Women's Champion, 100 days as SmackDown women's champion, 15 years of in ring work all leading to being thrown onto an event less than 24 hours before it starts. That certainly all equals to one massively underutilized star.
Now the upcoming run with the gold could be a grand resurgence for both Asuka and the women's tag titles, but who do they book that against? Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross? The IIconics? Fire and Desire? One struggles to name many tag teams that could capture the momentum necessary to achieve that.
Asuka would be much better suited as the building block of a new women's division over in AEW. She bridges the gap perfectly, being able to believably compete against the undersized Riho or the heavyweight Awesome Kong.
Something tells me 510 days as AEW's top woman would be an easy feat to achieve.
