10 Underwhelming Wrestlers Who Held Legendary Titles.
7. Scott Norton
Scott Norton is most fondly remembered as being the fridge freezer of a fella who did sweet f**k all as part of the nWo, after the stable expanded to include jabronis in 1997.
However, on the other side of the pacific, Norton was a veritable Godzilla.
After an entirely forgettable decade long career, that had seen him largely used as a tag-team wrestler toing and froing between New Japan and WCW throughout the '90s, Norton became NJPW's gaijin ace while part of nWo Japan.
After the IWGP Heavyweight Championship was vacated, following a neck injury to Masahiro Chono, Norton took on Yuji Nagata for the vacant title and defeated him to become champion in September 1998.
While the IWGP title of 1998 was a definite rung below All Japan's Triple Crown - and Norton a significant cut below Kenta Kobashi - it was still the second most prestigious title in Japan.
Although he wore the title on WCW TV, Norton received no push whatsoever following his win and dropped the title to Keiji Mutoh on the 4 January show of 1999, after a four month reign.
Departing WCW in 1999, Norton returned to Japan where he had a second, 23 day long reign with the IWGP title in 2001.
