It's fair to say the former WCW United States Championship had lost most of its luster by the time WWE turned the title into its current postage stamp design in 2003, but it still had a history.

From the epic battles between Flair and Steamboat in the '70s, to Magnum TA's wars with Tully Blanchard, the US should be a championship worth reckoning for.

Orlando Jordan looked the part and was a functional professional wrestler - but that's about it.

Jordan debuted '03 and quickly turned heel to become JBL's Chief of Staff, his boss helping him steal the US Title from John Cena a year later.

While the switch was intended to free up Cena for a main event push, it was concurrently designed to give Jordan the rub. It failed.

An uninspiring performer with a standardised routine, Jordan was unable to draw any interest and WWE's jump-the-gun strategy of using a title win to push a prospect failed at the first hurdle.

Retaining his title by hook or by crook, Jordan's antics fueled the indifference to his matches and he finally dropped the title to Chris Benoit in 25 seconds at SummerSlam 2005.

Jordan was released from WWE in 2006, sending tumbleweeds through the wrestling world.
