10 Unofficial Rules That Exist In WWE Today

8. Finishing Moves Don't Exist

WWE.com

There are no finishing moves in WWE anymore. There are signature moves, like the Attitude Adjustment and the F5, that have come to be associated with a certain character, but they aren't finishers. True finishers end matches most often and nobody's "finisher" in WWE today ends the match that regularly anymore. At their peak, the Tombstone, the Sharpshooter, the Leg Drop, and the Power Bomb were just a few finishing moves that nobody got out of. In the extremely rare case where these moves didn't result in the end of the match, those moments were protected and saved for the biggest of the biggest events: the main event of WrestleMania VI, the main event of SummerSlam '97, for example.

Unlike today where every month's PPV has someone kicking out of another star's "finisher", true finishing moves of the past would go years and years without being kicked out of. Bret's Sharpshooter lasted for over six years before someone ever powered out of it. Is it even possible to imagine something like that happening today? Today's WWE is a world where the "finisher" works sometimes and it doesn't work at other times, where sometimes it takes a second use and sometimes two's not enough, and sometimes it lays an opponent out, rendering them motionless for minutes on end and sometimes they're up after 2 seconds, ready for the next move. With inconsistency like that, the move is not a finisher, it's just a regular wrestling move.
