Steve Austin's long-running feud with the evil Mr. McMahon was furthered by the involvement of Shane. On paper, this wasn't a bad idea. Shane could bump around nicely for Austin and keep one of the WWF's hottest ever feuds ticking along. Then, they just had to go and get carried away by booking story arcs without any conclusions.

In the midst of a two-on-one Ladder Match at King of the Ring 1999 against both Vince and Shane, Austin tried to grab a briefcase containing papers that would give him "100% ownership of the WWF". Right before he could though, the case mysteriously started rising up into the rafters.

Who was behind this? We'd never find out.

Seriously, the WWF had gone to the trouble of writing a plot point for their biggest rivalry without ever coming up with a decision on who the mystery person controlling the briefcase actually was. The only hint fans were given was that maybe Big Boss Man (a member of McMahon's Corporation) was to blame.
