The show and matches takes place in a ring, inside an arena. The entire set-up has a lot of movable parts, from the apron to the turnbuckles to the steps and more. There are ladders under the ring, chairs all around ringside and all other sorts of furniture ready to be plundered.

If something is made out of metal, however, it is almost always described as being made out of steel. You've got steel chairs, steel steps, a steel bolt waiting under the turnbuckle pad. This adds extra weight to the pain of being hit by one of these objects, which used to be referred to as 'foreign' objects.

This of course isn't true, as being blasted in the head with steel would almost certainly kill a human being. Don't think about that though, just be impressed at how much steel every wrestling promotion has been able to find.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
