10 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (18 Aug)
5. Dan Lambert Has Had It With You Millennials
Dan Lambert is the perfect grumpy old heel for the AEW audience.
He proved it in his first segment, raging against the company's brand of wrestling as if he was channelling Jim Cornette. Last night, he took a different route, p*ssing and moaning about "millennials," "cancel culture," and people trying to silence free speech. He wasn't afraid of grabbing low-hanging fruit and going all the way with it either, ripping the crowd when he needed to. And delivery-wise, you already know he was great. Lambert is a natural at this.
Andrei Arlovski and Junior Dos Santos were the perfect MMA fighters to flank him as they have the credibility of being former UFC Heavyweight Champions and are legitimately huge, too. It's easier to buy into them posing a threat to Lance Archer, who marched out to take care of business towards the end.
If the segment has a downside, it's that Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky clobbering Archer from behind fell flat. The Men of the Year are in cahoots with Lambert, it seems, but didn't draw the desired reaction. They felt random rather than shocking. How do two cocky fashionistas fit the American Top Team mould, exactly?
Nonetheless, the segment was a net positive.
