10 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (18 Aug)
4. Judas Falls
Houston signing Fozzy's Judas at the top of their lungs will go down as one of the most memorable ring entrances of Chris Jericho's career. This was always going to happen when MJF presented his Judas-free stipulation last week, and it served two purposes.
1. The incredible crowd involvement.
2. MJF's reaction to it. The character thought he had played a trump card. Instead, he ended up angrier than ever as the audience rallied for his rival, giving him a bigger boost than the raw track would have.
The match hit the right points, too. Jericho delivered a sprightlier performance than in recent Labours, springing from the ropes like he would have done even a couple of years ago, and MJF was tremendous. Everything from his targeted limb work to his pantomime facial expressions were what they needed to be. While peppered with moments of flashiness, he was entirely focused on drawing heat for himself and generating sympathy for his opponent, which he accomplished by destroying Jericho's damaged arm and shortcutting whenever the opportunity to do so arose.
MJF's limb work was paid off in the finish, which saw him put Jericho down via Salt of the Earth after sufficiently weakening the arm and applying enough leverage. The guy just tapped Chris Jericho out, too. That's a big deal, and his next big leap towards megastardom.
