10 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Mar 3)
7. Character Development
Contrary to popular belief, there's much more to Joey Ryan than just being the d*ck guy. The guy can commit himself to a story, and make it work to its biggest potential. That was 100% the case when he battled Acey Romero this week, with 'The King of Dong Style' showing a vastly different side to his character as the match progressed.
Throughout the bout, there were a few notable changes to Ryan's demeanour, but nothing came as more of a surprise than when he placed Romero's hand on 'it', only to slap it away. Joey appeared to be beside himself when he realised what he was doing with his life at that moment in time, but the distraction allowed Romero to completely flatten the Californian. A bit of a flat ending with a flying elbow drop seeing as it wasn't the flashiest, however, if you have a man the size of Acey Romero flying onto you, then you won't be getting up.
Things were followed up backstage with Ryan talking to Katie Forbes, who's also been becoming a slightly different character as of late thanks to the Twitter trolls. He doesn't need to be aligning himself with anyone because he can easily go on to huge success himself, but at least they're actually doing something proper with the former Gut Check competitor. This could very well be something half decent if done right.
