In the realm of scripted media, professional wrestling is as unpredictable as it gets. It's closest relative is live theatre, yet pro-wrestling comes with all of the pressures and risk of theatrical performances along with the additional weight of a gruelling display of athletics and the knowledge that any spot can quickly become a high risk one.

Also, our fandom is at the mercy of snap decisions. It feels like every time you return following a break from the screen there's an influx of news and rumours. This keeps sports entertainment thriving and the content pumping out, even if it often proves a little overwhelming at times.

Sports entertainment operates around the draw that anything can, and will happen. It's what keeps us tuning in week after week, while reading articles and engaging in debate among fellow devotees in between. No area of debate gets quite so lively as predictions...

At this time late in the year, there is a mix of nostalgia and trepidation for the future lingering in the air. While your favourite childhood Christmas movies have you covered for the former, we've got you for the latter.

10. Roman Reigns Remains WWE Champion

Roman Reigns is the indisputable star of SmackDown. It is unsurprising that 'The Tribal Chief' remaining Universal Champion in 2022 is a popular prediction among the fanbase. Reigns is enjoying the run of his career. Not only is he successful in kayfabe terms, he has also managed to turn around his standing with fans. Heel Roman should remain.

A predominant factor in Reigns adding another 365 days to his title run is that he is currently bereft of credible challengers on the blue brand. To give Roman a foe worthy of him, WWE have had to bring in part-timer Brock Lesnar, who it is always great to see but 'The Beast's' other commitments mean he doesn't stay around long enough to gain considerable traction.

Other than Lesnar, the only credible challenge is Drew McIntyre. Sheamus is tied up in mentorship and tomfoolery, and it's as if Kofi Kingston, Shinsuke Nakamura and Jinder Mahal were never World Champions. Alongside this, there has been a failure in pushing current mid-card talent such as Ricochet.

Unless there is a fruitful superstar shake-up in the pipeline, SmackDown's sole choice for Head of the Table is Roman Reigns.
