10 Ways WWE Have Already Weakened Sting's Relevance
8. Late To The Party
Sting first broke into the business through the CWA but quickly moved to UWF before they were acquired by Jim Crockett Promotions. While most of the UWF talents were maginalised, the promotion that would go on to be WCW saw the obvious potential in Sting and positioned him as their brightest and hottest prospect. WCW always treated Sting well, he was positioned as the franchise player of the promotion and represented them in pop culture the same way that John Cena currently represents WWE. Sting repaid WCW with loyalty to the company through thick and thin, and was there from the very first Monday Nitro to the very last. WWEs Invasion storyline floundered for a number of reasons, the biggest being the lack of any big WCW superstars. All of the megastars like Hulk Hogan, Goldberg and Sting had separate contracts with Time Warner, so it was easier for them to sit at home and collect checks than it was to go to a promotion that had been trying to put them out of business for seven years. The longer it took for Sting to get to WWE, the more it seems like they missed the boat. There are dozens of classic matches that fans will never get to see because WWE took too long getting Sting on board and now its a case of too little, too late.
