The entire business model surrounding pay-per-view has changed ever since the launch of the WWE Network in February 2014, but WWE's treatment of their monthly special events has also undergone a drastic shift over the years.
In years past, WWE would go to great lengths to prevent any video clips or photos of the latest pay-per-view from being released to the public. Even on Raw, the company would only show a handful of usually low-grade, still-shot photographs from the prior event. The idea was that WWE wanted to protect the details of the show in order to increase additional encore and/or Coliseum Video release buys.
Today, through the use of Twitter and social media, WWE releases photos and videos of the event as it happens. WWE fans are simply one Twitter search or follow away from finding out all the answers regarding the show as it airs live.
In years past, fans often would not get to see the event's action until months, if not years later if they didn't order the pay-per-view. Today, WWE relies on their social media accounts to push their WWE Network subscriptions and fans can see the show's results almost instantly.
