10 Ways WWE's Current Product Mirrors That Which Killed WCW
8. Repetitive Match Ups
A lot of fans grew tired of WCW because of the repetitive nature of the product they put out on television; because of the lack of mobility and the tampering of peoples careers by main event politicians guys were having the same matches against the same opponents often on a regular basis and familiarity breeds contempt which in turn drove away the audience base. The Cruiserweight division was particularly prone to this; with guys like Rey Mysterio Jr, Chris Jericho, Psicosis, Juventud Guerrera, Dean Malenko et all having faced each other so many times fans began to stop caring; and the amount of D.Q. finishes in their main events eventually drawing more distaste than the infamous Dusty Finishes of the late 80s and early 90s. And this was with a roster over twice the number of the current WWE roster and with two hours less television a week. Part of the reason for the launch of the WWE Network was that the Pay-Per-View buy-rates were on a steady decline and have been for the last few years. A big factor in this is that WWE presents the same match week in, week out, on television and then expects people to pay out for a PPV event to see the exact same match theyve seen over the last several weeks of television. This year alone from the February 10th edition of Raw to the March 3rd Edition; WWE presented matches featuring combinations of Fandango & Summer Rae vs Santino Marella and Emma for four consecutive episodes (then booked it again on the April 7th episode). Between April and July The Rhodes Brothers vs Rybaxel was presented no less than five times (in one form or another); and, lest we forget, there was a recent run of handicap tag-team main events pitting a combination of The Authority (usually Kane, Seth Rolins and Randy Orton) against John Cena and whoever his current partner was (first Dean Ambrose then Dolph Ziggler). Even veteran fans who refuse to abandon the product groan in frustration when they see the competitors come out for the nth week running for the same match up theyve had over and over again; many cant watch Raw live anymore because they have to be able to fast forward these segments. Other fans get fed up and abandon the product; just as they did with WCW.
