10 WCW Rip-Offs That Helped WWE Win The Monday Night War
2. A PPV Every Month
In the early to mid-'90s, WWF PPVs were limited to the big five of Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, King of the Ring, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series. Meanwhile, WCW began to push the envelope with several more and WWF was forced to push back, eventually coming up with the In Your House "mini PPV" concept in 1995.
However, despite WWF's counter move, WCW were still churning out full-blown PPVs every month. WWF were showing PPVs with a shorter run time and a lower price tag, all of which gave the impression that the overall PPV itself was second rate. While this wasn't always the case, particularly when it came to main events, the perception was unavoidable.
With the introduction of the New World Order in '96, the great divide grew wider and WWF were once again playing catch-up. As a result, WWF were forced to ditch the "mini PPV" concept and followed WCW's lead with a monthly three hour PPV starting in September '97. The In Your House moniker began to be phased out in '98 and was ditched altogether in May '99.
The monthly PPV concept proved a huge success for WWF and has continued in WWE to this day. WWE have even taken it a step further since then, presenting two PPVs a month several times since 2016.
