10 Weird But True Facts For WWE In 2023
6. Dearth Of Title Changes
Despite having a plethora of active titles between Raw and
SmackDown, WWE fans heard, “And new…” fewer times in 2023 than any year in the past
decade-plus.
Really, this stat shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering that two (well, three) titles didn’t change hands at all last year: the Intercontinental Championship and the Undisputed WWE Universal (and WWE) Championship. The Women’s World Championship (formerly SmackDown Women’s Championship) was traded once, at WrestleMania 39. And Seth Rollins was the only person to hold the new World Heavyweight Championship.
All told and depending on how you count the women’s singles titles changing names, there were just 16 title changes in 2023, six of which were the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship being traded. Still, that’s the fewest since 2012.
Just given expected storylines, there already should be two major title changes for 2024 in the cards, unless WWE is hellbent on Roman Reigns and Gunther running the table this year as well.
