Throughout his career, Shawn Michaels was often the prototype of a WWE superstar that intentionally over-sold.

Early on, Michaels took inspiration from Curt Hennig’s performances to help him steal the show at the 1994 and 1995 Royal Rumbles. Bouncing from turnbuckle to turnbuckle and flipping over the top rope countless times, Michaels took Perfect’s groundwork of stealing the show by bumping to a whole new level.

The most egregious of Michaels’ over-selling came in his 2005 SummerSlam match against Hulk Hogan. Having been irked at Hogan’s last-minute political play and the change of plans to their program that no longer saw Michaels scoring any victories over the Immortal One, Shawn was determined to show the Hulkster how he does business.

In perhaps the only time in Hogan’s career, his finishing boot to the face resulted in his opponent falling down, getting back up, dizzily twirling around, and front-flipping back onto the canvas in one fell swoop.

Even without the caricature that was the 2005 SummerSlam main event, Shawn Michaels made his name and Hall Of Fame career by his consistent over-selling.
