10 Worst Finishes To WWE WrestleMania Matches

1. Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler (WrestleMania XXVII)

Imagine you’ve somehow given a WrestleMania slot to a match between two of your commentators. One’s never wrestled a minute in his life, the other is 60 years old and long retired. All the same, you’ve built a lengthy angle around the rank amateur being relentlessly antagonistic towards the ex-pro. The fans have rejected it en masse; indeed it’s stinking out your programming. But you’re in too deep at this point.

The sensible thing to do would be to make a swift dismount by having the baby face commentator, a respected former wrestler and the likeable figure in all this, go over quickly, and forget all about it. Even if the angle was dire and the match likely to be bad, there'd be some fun to be had in seeing the incredibly annoying Cole take a beating.

Instead, after Lawler tapping Cole out, the always-unwelcome Anonymous Raw General Manager got involved. He declared that guest ref Steve Austin had overstepped his authority, and awarded the DQ win to Cole.

This was a baffling choice, particularly after 13 minutes of dreadful action. Prolonging the angle was the last thing anyone wanted.
