Billy Gunn might have been part of one of the most popular tag teams as half of the New Age Outlaws but most people forget that the gap between his Smokin' Gunn days and his Outlaw days involved rhinestone belts, awkward dancing, and the Honky Tonk Man. After the Smokin' Gunns disbanded, Gunn was saddled with the ridiculous gimmick of "Rockabilly" and was touted as the Honky Tonk Man's protege. Like most musical gimmicks, if the wrestler isn't committed to the shtick it is painfully obvious. It is quite safe to say that Gunn was not comfortable dancing to the corny country rock n' roll theme song and inheriting Honky Tonk Man's swinging neckbreaker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h38XdPJxjw Mercifully for fans and Gunn himself, during a feud with the equally floundering "Roadie", Gunn ditched the Honky Tonk Man and formed the Outlaws with Jesse James. The rest, of course, is history, and Gunn proved to be a way better "Bad Ass" than "Rockabilly." Though one could argue whether being the "Ass Man" with see-through trunks was actually better than the rhinestone studded Rockabilly jackets.
