10 Worst WWE Feuds Of 2016
1. Darren Young Vs. Titus O'Neil
This is what happens when you don’t have a credible midcard.
Both former Prime Time Players have had tough years. Titus had the aforementioned suspension and emasculation by Rusev’s hands, and Darren Young was saddled with one of the year’s most ridiculous gimmicks. His pairing with Bob Backlund has produced a handful of fun moments, but it hasn’t translated into singles success, and WWE have failed completely in their efforts to “make Darren Young great again.”
Put these two together and you have the year’s worst feud. It started with O’Neil questioning Young’s motivations on being “great again,” before Titus went full heel by pinning Young with a handful of tights later in the evening. Titus got into a backstage confrontation with Backlund the following week, and the tedium continued.
Darren vs. Titus never stood a chance. WWE had done absolutely nothing to make fans care about either man going into the rivalry, and this proved disastrous. Their weekly segments were met with cricket chirps and tumbleweed from the audience, and it culminated with a horrendous segment on the post-SummerSlam Raw. Titus botched almost all of his lines in a bumbling in-ring promo, and that was that: the feud was scrapped, and each man went their separate way.
In the aftermath, Darren wandered off to the C-shows, while Titus took-on his new “Titus Brand” gimmick and a sizeable losing streak. Quite why WWE thought anyone would be interested in this shambles is anyone’s guess, but it happened, and we can only hope they learn from their mistakes. At least they had the decency to end Curtis Axel vs. Bo Dallas after a single week, though...
